Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:28-31
Do we trust in God’s will even if it means we go into unknown territories where we may feel uncomfortable? Do we trust in Him only when things are going our way? I have experienced tough times in my life, and have wondered “why me”. At the time I thought God should have spared me some of the agony since I was His faithful follower.
It takes a lot of faith to go down unknown paths with our careers or relationships. Giving God full control of our lives is not an easy task. People tend to want to be in control. We like to know where we are going and be able to make decisions about which way to turn along the way. However, if we want to follow God’s will, we need to trust in His judgement and His plans for our future.
For years I pushed hard to get ahead in the corporate world…but to no avail. When, in 2007, I decided to give up my career direction to God, my path started to blossom. I found myself in new positions that had not existed in the past. I used talents of mine that had been somewhat set aside over the years. My career took off with new life. As I reflect on my life, I wish I had given up control years before.
Test your faith. Take the steps needed to give more control of your life over to God. You will be amazed at the results. Because He has such an imagination for your future, you will experience things you never dreamed of on your own!.
