In the Bible, we read about angels from Heaven appearing before people to deliver messages.  The word angel is derived from the Greek word “angelos”, which means messenger.  This was used for these visitors who appeared to humans in spiritual form, for several various reasons. Usually, their message contained whatever was important as directed by the heavens above. These angels often came in times of need, times of distress, and to forewarn of oncoming catastrophe.  They also delivered good news, when telling Mary about her future baby, Jesus, and telling the shepherds that He was born.

We do not hear about angels appearing in modern times.  Is it that they no longer appear or is it that they have gone undercover.  We hear people use the phrase; he/she was a Godsend.  It means they did something for you unexpectedly that you really needed right then.  We also hear about people feeling they have a guardian angel looking after them.  Are these angels that have gone undercover where you cannot see them, but can feel their presence?

“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” – Psalm 91:11 NIV

Is an angel responsible for the quick stop to avoid crashing our car, or the fact we ran late one morning and avoided an accident?   There are many ways God encourages and reaches out to help us daily. Angels are agents and messengers, under God’s will and sovereign authority. In a world cursed with evil and sin, it’s a comfort to know the forces of God are battling for us.  It is ultimately God who is looking after us and taking care of us.  He uses anything and everything in His power, including angels.

Does He use you and me?  We pray regularly for our needs and sometimes it is a friend that comes through for us in our time of need.  Maybe you were down on your luck and needed a little bit of money to get through until payday just to keep food on the table, or to pay your rent.  What if a friend gave you what you needed and did not ask for anything in return.  You may call them a Godsend.  You may be having a conversation with someone, and they tell you that what you just said was exactly what they needed to hear that day.  God probably had a part in putting those words in your mouth.

We always think of prayer from our perspective.  Let us try to look at it from God’s perspective.  He sees one of His children in need.  He may decide that you would be the best person to answer someone else’s prayer.  He may send you, even without you knowing it, to help the situation.  What if you were that undercover angel that day?
