Ok, I admit, this hits home closer to me than maybe some of the rest of you. I ran across this passage in the Bible and felt that I needed to share it with you.
1 Corinthians 7:32-34 (NIV)
I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband.
Our culture puts pressure on someone that is single to be married. I personally, have been married twice, and have felt that I have failed in that area of my life. I have been asked by many friends if I am currently dating someone. Why the rush? I am not saying that marriage is not a good thing, so you do not have to start sending me hate mail. I interpret this passage as though God is saying it is OK to be single. With marriage comes distractions, good and bad. With marriage also comes stress. If you are single, do not give into peer pressure to be married. If you want to be married, do it for all the right reasons.
I am just fine being single. As I journey into the next stage of my life, I plan on concentrating on what God’s will is for me. I am finishing up on my second book that I expect to publish in January 2013. It is not a coincidence that it is on stress management. I have a message to share that God has put on my heart. This blog, website and my books are how I witness to what God has done in my life. If you enjoy what you read, please share it with others that may need to hear what I am saying. I am available for speaking appearances and would love to come talk to your church or organization about leadership, personal growth and stress management.
