Mother – that one word that cannot be defined in a single phrase; that one word that embodies all the love a human being could possibly offer. This weekend, we celebrate Mother’s Day. We should be celebrating mothers every day. A mother is not just someone who gave birth to a child. A mother represents the combination of feelings, behaviors and sacrifices that occur while raising a child, whether the child is biologically hers or not.
A mother has unconditional love. We have all disappointed our mothers at some point in our lives. That does not change their love for us. They celebrate our victories in life and comfort us in our losses. Our mothers do not stop being our mothers when we get older. When our lives get busy with our careers, raising our own family, and we fail to call them as often as we should. Their love does not change.
Rudyard Kipling said, “God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.” Well, I have to disagree with the part about God not being able to be everywhere, but feel it is God’s love showing through in our mother’s love for us. God has unconditional love for us. We disappoint Him at times, but He doesn’t love us any less. He celebrates our victories and comforts us during our losses. As our lives get busy and we slip away and not talk to Him as often as we should, He patiently waits for our return.
“You loved me before seeing me; You love me in all my mistakes; You will love me for what I am.”

When I read this, I immediately thought about God’s love for me. He loved me before I was born. He loves me even though I am sinful. That does not mean He loves my sins, but He forgives me. He loves me!
I cannot help but think about my mom when writing this blog. She has had such a positive influence in my life. Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” All I can say is “Thank You Mom! I love you!” Happy Mother’s Day!
