We are currently living in uncertain times.  Overnight, our lifestyles have been changed drastically by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).  This brought with it fear and anxiety.  We fear what could happen to ourselves and our loved ones.  In the beginning, the fear was for our health but has now escalated to include the economy and its effect on us personally and globally.  In a previous devotional, we learned about wants versus needs.  Our fear and anxiety during these turbulent times should be lessened knowing God will take care of our needs, but is it enough?

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  Isaiah 41:10 NIV

Yes, it is enough! God tells us He is always with us and we can turn to Him for strength and help.  In my experience, this is what it means to lean on God: believing in His Word, giving all my cares to Him, and trusting Him no matter what.  I am thankful to have His grace, mercy, and strength to carry me through good times and bad.

I love this passage: “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time He may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on Him, because he cares for you.”  1 Peter 5:6-7 ESV

It takes humility to realize we need help.  It likewise takes humility to accept help…whether it comes from other people or even if it comes from God.  We must trust God fully with our lives and recognize that He will always take care of us.  Do not give in to fear regarding current circumstances over which you have no control.  God still has power and authority over every circumstance!

To make that easier to understand, think about this: when you give something to someone else, it’s now theirs to take care of; it no longer belongs to you nor is it your responsibility.  The same thing happens when you give your fears and anxieties to God.  They are no longer your concern.  Don’t let fear and anxiety about COVID-19 bring you down.  Give it to God to handle.  Then, focus on the positive things taking place all around you.

What might you be doing differently since COVID-19 has impacted your life?  Have you been in closer communication with friends and family? Have you found ways to help others in the community who may need assistance meeting basic needs?  This is also a good time to reinstitute family dinners, resume work on a hobby, walk outside and enjoy the beauty of nature, catch up on projects around the house, read a book, and indulge yourself with needed rest.  Even in the midst of this virus, there are so many positive things to be thankful for every day.

Thanking God for our many blessings, and putting all our faith and trust in Him, allows us to release any fear and anxiety we may have.  As God told the Israelites in Isaiah 41:13: “For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”  Praise the Lord!
