What is your approach to life? Are you just walking through life or are you pushing yourself to get more out of life? You can determine a lot about your attitude and drive by your stress levels.
I will start with an example of high stress and the onset of depression. You are struggling with your career. The pressure is building because things are not going your way. This may be because you are pursuing a career or position within your company that is not a good fit for your personality and talents. It may be because you are frustrated that you are not getting promoted quickly enough. Frustration sets in. This frustration takes a toll on your work behavior.
Now, you are not performing at your best because of this added stress. This frustration and stress starts coming home with you and affecting your personal relationships with friends and family. Now your home life is not going the way that you want it. You start to get depressed. All you want to do when you come home from work is relax on the couch and watch tv. You start to disengage with those around you. You do not feel like getting out and doing anything. Even when it is activities that you love to do, you are not interested.
You are now in “walking” mode. Life just slowly passes by without your attention. The weeks become months and then the months become years. You may not even realize it. You are missing out on so much. You need to be aware that you are slipping into walking mode. It is time to start jogging again.
Have you noticed that the more active that you are, the more energy that you have? The more chances that you take along the way of life, the more opportunities start coming your way? If you can get active and keep your stress levels in tact, your career will start to grow as well. This is because you start performing at your best. You are not concerned anymore about trying to get promoted. I have said before, that the best way to get promoted is to perform at your best in the position that you current have.
As you start jogging your way through life, you become aware of so much more going on around you. You are not stuck on the couch. Your relationships flourish and this increases your satisfaction in life. The more that you are satisfied with your life, the less stress that you will have. Depression is the farthest thing from you now. It continues to affect all areas of your life.
Get out of your walking mode and start jogging. Enjoy life to the fullest. Try something adventurous. Just keep moving and see how exciting life can be. 2013 can be your best year ever. Share your adventures by commenting below. I would to hear from you.
