Does time seem to slip away from you? Do others in your life seem to have more time to accomplish more things? We all have the same amount to start with, but there is a wide variety of how we spend our time each day.
Earlier this year, I was training for a marathon and committed myself to running up to 20 miles each Saturday morning with our training group. It was a priority so I made sure that I did not miss a session. I had to make a choice. There were days that it would have been easy to roll over, pull up the covers and sleep for an extra couple of hours since it was freezing outside.
We make choices every day on what gets our time. I see my priorities changing periodically. Do you ever feel drawn away from what you were originally planning on doing? Maybe you were going to do something for yourself and then put the needs of someone else in front of yours. Proverbs 16:9 says “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”
Some people seem to be involved in so many more activities than others. I see this in many people that donate their time to different non-profit organizations. They care for others, or a cause, and commit many hours of their time. They do not have any more time than you and I have, but make time for others. Take a look at what you spend your time on each day, besides your career. It shows your priorities. Is there anything that you would change?
Put God as your top priority in life and see what He has planned for you. Approach each day with an open mind and heart. What you thought was important may not be as high of a priority as you have been making it. Before you go to bed at night, recap the day in your mind. Are you pleased with your actions throughout the day? What else would have you liked to accomplish? Is it more important than what you did?
What are the priorities in your life right now? What makes them your priorities? Is it your faith or society? I would love to hear from you. Please leave your comments below.
