The Apostle Paul wrote this in a letter to the Thessalonians.  1 Thessalonians 5:16-19  Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.  Do not quench the spirit.  When I read it, it tells me to keep God in my thoughts throughout the whole day.  He is not just telling us to pray in the morning and before we go to bed.  It is not about setting aside time each day for a devotional.  That may be part of it, but we need to keep Him in the forefront all day long.

How do you see that in your life?  It is your awareness of your walk with Him.  He is with you always.  Give thanks in all circumstances.  Be thankful for all of the gifts that He has bestowed upon you.  As I write this, I am in the countryside of Italy surrounded by the sounds of nature.  There are birds chirping, bees buzzing around and dogs running across the yard when they are not laying down beside our hammocks.  God has blessed me with this experience.  Every sound is made by one of His creations.

We should be thankful for not getting what we want all of the time.  There are so many times that a better opportunity comes around because we did not get something that we were longing for.  Can you think about examples in your life where this has happened?

We need to pray for others throughout the day.  It does not need to be long.  Be aware of others and their needs.  Let God know that you have trust in Him to provide for that person’s needs.  It may be someone that you see that looks like they are having a bad day.  Pray that God will give them comfort and hope and they see Him walking beside them.  You do not need to know the person’s needs since God already knows what they need.  I have to remind myself that it is God’s will that I am praying for and not my own.

Allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life.  Let Him guide your path.  He continues to speak to us.  We just need to listen.  Some people say it is that gut feeling that you get when you feel that you need to be doing something or, at times, not to be doing something.  We have a constant companion and we need to communicate with Him throughout the day.

I would love to hear how you keep the focus on God throughout your day.
